The importance of quiet time to relax xx

When was the last time you experienced a truly quiet moment to yourself ?

 

Our pace of life is increasing and subsequently having time purely to ourselves can be difficult to achieve. In our modern world with smartphones, laptops, tablets and social media it is hard to be alone, silent and switch off. Even whilst asleep our minds can still be busy and keeping us alert which can affect our sleep.

 

 

WHO, ( the World Health Organisation) , released a report in 2011 which said noise pollution is a ‘modern plague’ and concluded  there is overwhelming evidence that exposure to environmental noise-caused by recreational activities as well as transport and industrial-actually harms our health.

 

Both physical and digital noise negatively affects our focus and sleep as well as increasing stress hormones and symptoms of depression and anxiety recent studies have confirmed.

 

There is increasing awareness that we need to ‘switch off’ sometimes and people are trying various ways to achieve that. ‘Digital detox’ is a great way to disconnect from your devices and reconnect with yourself , loved ones and nature. Maybe look up Time To Log Off (itstimetologoff.com) to get you started. If you find this hard to achieve on your own meditating for a brief period every day can help you to bring back some silence in your life, try Headspace, Buddhify or Calm apps.

 

Silent retreats are also becoming popular which include solitude, meditation, mindfulness and where all technology is banned.

 

We can all do something to attain some peace; it’s just a case of finding what is right for us. Having some peace in our lives is another way we can help our own health and wellbeing so give it a try!!
