What is Reiki?

Reiki is an ancient practice based around spiritual balance. It is used as a modality to relieve stress and encourage relaxation, but it is also attributed to the self-healing of a number of illnesses, ailments and injuries.

The physical side of reiki is quite simple to learn as it consists of a number of hand positions however the spiritual side is more complex. The spiritual aspects of reiki rather than being taught are transmitted. A reiki master will attune their students to the reiki energy which gives them the ability to channel it whenever they choose.

The practitioner is merely then an individual through which the healing energy flows. It is not the practitioner that provides the healing, it is up to the individual receiving the reiki how much of this healing energy they will take and use. It is a lovely natural process.

In a typical session, the therapist will place their hands in a series of positions around the body, the hands can either be placed on to the body or just above, whichever is preferred. They will then focus on channeling the healing energy and the receiver just simply relaxes. This relaxed state will allow the energy to flow to where it is most needed physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Everyones experience of reiki is different, and it is very difficult to describe as it is so personal but it is deeply relaxing and quite unlike anything else!!

At Cornish Holistic Therapies we perform the therapy in our secluded treatment space set in the garden. There will be soft music playing and candles flickering.

We will do a full medical consultation beforehand and have a general chat so we can get to know each other and make you feel welcome and relaxed. The treatment lasts for an hour and then we allow you to relax afterwards for as long as you need.

If it is something that intrigues you or you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch :)

Lots of love and kind regards,
